Yukon Power and Sail Squadron is a unit of the Pacific Mainland District

which in turn is a unit of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons.

YPSS Courses
The Yukon power and Sail Squadron is proud to have taught hundreds of students over the last thirty years in classes covering the many aspects of safe boating.  Instructors are Volunteers from the Yukon boating community and offer considerable local knowledge with course instruction. 

The Basic Boating Course is only offered once a year in late fall.  This course covers a four week period and includes 5 evenings full days on Saturdays.  A minimum of 12  and a Maximum of 25 students are needed for the Basic Boating Course.

The Maritime Radio Course provides you with the Restricted Operators Certificate (M) Maritime VHF.
It is only offered once a year in early Spring.  This course covers one Friday evening and full day Saturday.  Knowing the phonetic alphabet is essential to passing this course so learning it ahead of time is helpful. 
A minimum of 12  and a Maximum of 25 students are needed for this course

The PCOC
This is the boating operator competency certificate that all Canadian operators of a motorized pleasure craft will need. All operators of motorized vessels under 4 meters (13.2 ft) and all operators born after April 1st 1983 need a PCOC now. The CPS PCOC offered by YPSS is valid in Canada and the US.


Basic Boating Course

Whether you are interested in powerboats, sailing vessels or kayaks, this course is for you! The Boating Course provides in depth boat operation and safety training. As well, you will experience the challenge of plotting and navigation.

Successful completion of the accredited midterm exam will allow you to receive your Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). By passing the final Boating Course exam you will join Canada’s largest association of recreational boating enthusiasts with the benefits of a full CPS membership.



Maritime Radio Course

This complete package with CD, and the new Digital Selective Calling, will prepare you for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement exam.

The Maritime Radio course teaches emergency radio procedures, as well as everyday operating techniques.

Learn all about the uses of marine radios, choice of frequencies, operation, phonetic alphabet, procedural words and phrases, as well as Digital Selective Calling and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, (DSC/GMDSS). All mariners, including recreational boaters, will want to take advantage of the many features and capabilities of this innovative form “automatic” radio.
